This week writer Matt Elliot visited Silverdale Normal School. Matt Elliott is a historian, biographer and a former stand-up comedian. He is the author of Nice Day for a War: Adventures of a Kiwi Soldier in World War I, co-authored by award-winning cartoonist, Chris Slane, which won the Non-fiction category of the 2012 NZ Post Children’s Book Awards and was named 2012 Children’s Book of the Year overall.

Matt spoke to our students about what he had learnt researching his Grandad’s war experience, and was able to share personal stories, and keep sakes that his Granddad brought back from the war.  It was an amazing opportunity to hear Matt share his experience as an author and to give us such a unique insight into World War One.
